Race is a subject many Americans do not like to discuss simply because they feel inadaquate or ill equipted to talk about it. America has endorsed, supported, and promoted racism since Africans were added to the list of American slaves. Prior to American slavery, the need for color as a symbol of personal worth or value was not needed or used, except by Europeans who refered to themselves as “white.” The primary driving force in the use of color as a marker for race is base on value, personal worth. The wealthy decided the value of everything in society. As a matter of fact, they still do. But that’s another subject. The time has come for America to grow up.

As children, many Americans believed in Santa Claus, however, once they reached an age where some discernment arrived, they realized that Santa was a myth, and illusion. In other words, they started to grow up and view life from a new and different perspective. America has to do the same with respect to race. The fact that all human beings are of one race has not yet taken hold in the American psyche; and that is part of the problem.
